Community Shield preview: Man City take on Liverpool

Two of England’s biggest clubs collide this weekend in the Community Shield as Manchester City take on Liverpool.
Manchester City scooped every domestic honour last season, taking home the Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup in a season to remember.
City denied Liverpool to the Premier League title by a solitary point in a thrilling season as Pep Guardiola’s side successfully defended their crown.
Liverpool enter the Community Shield by virtue of finishing second and will be hoping to pick up where they left last season.
The Reds won a sixth UEFA Champions League title in June, beating Spurs 2-0 in Madrid thanks to goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi.
It was Liverpool’s first trophy since 2012 and Jurgen Klopp will be hoping the honour brings in a wave of trophies for the club.
Liverpool have so far brought in two youngsters in the transfer window, including starlet Harvey Elliott from Fulham.
Pre-season results have been varied with three victories and three defeats but Klopp will see the summer as an opportunity to get players back up to fitness.
Manchester City meanwhile have acquired the talents of Rodri from Atlético Madrid.
The midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough season in Madrid before moving to Manchester to link up with Guardiola’s side.
City are unbeaten in pre-season with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne getting on the scoresheet this summer.
The sides played out two tight contests last season, drawing 0-0 at Anfield before City secured a vital 2-1 victory over the Reds at the Etihad.
Sergio Agüero and Leroy Sané scored the goals to inflicts Liverpool’s only defeat of the campaign.
The Community Shield is not always a hallmark of the season ahead but offers up an enthralling curtain raiser ahead of an intriguing 2019-20 season.
