FC Barcelona and Real Madrid form one of the most iconic rivalries in sport, El Clásico
The two footballing giants have been battling it out for LaLiga and the Champions League for over a century, with the rivalry only becoming more intense.
The first El Clásico came way back in 1902 with FC Barcelona coming out on top with a 3-1 victory.
Barça go into the 2019-20 season as defending LaLiga champions and with both sides enjoying strong transfer windows, here’s a look back at some of the most unforgettable moments from the fixture from down the years.
In 2014, the two giants of Spanish football faced off in the Copa del Rey final and it was settled by a flying Welshman.
With the game at 1-1, Gareth Bale used his electric pace to burst away from Marc Bartra and slide the ball home to seal a dramatic victory.
In the 2011 Copa del Rey showpiece at the Mestalla it was Cristiano Ronaldo who took centre stage.
The Portuguese forward climbed highest to power his header past José Pinto in extra time to seal a first Copa del Rey title since 1993.
A year earlier, Barça were completing a comprehensive triumph over Real Madrid.
In November 2010, Pep Guardiola’s side dismantled Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid 5-0 after goals from Xavi, Pedro, Jeffrén and a double from David Villa.
Five years prior it was Ronaldinho tormenting Real Madrid, even earning applause from the Bernabéu crowd.
The Brazilian bamboozled the Madrid defence, slicing through at will as Barça won 3-0.
In 2007, Lionel Messi wrote his name into the history books with a stunning hat-trick at the Camp Nou.
Messi, only 19 at the time, pegged Madrid back twice in the first half before netting his third goal in added time.
The Argentine danced past two defenders before slamming home past Iker Casillas to rescue a 3-3 draw.
