What to look out for in the Champions League

1 October 2019

The second round of Champions League fixtures kick off with Real Madrid hosting Club Bruges.

Real Madrid will be keen to correct their opening game defeat to Paris Saint-Germain after a slow start to their Champions league campaign.

This fixture could give the likes of Eden Hazard the opportunity to get off the mark in Europe for Los Blancos and make an impact in Spain.

Looking beyond Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to build on that magnificent victory from their opening fixture.

Despite Galatasaray being a notoriously difficult place to visit, the win over Real Madrid, alongside the return of Neymar will give the French champions the confidence to get a result.

Mauro Icardi could net his first Champions League goal for the Parisians as he looks to make a name for himself after his move from Inter in the summer.

There’s an eye-catching game in London as Spurs host the German champions Bayern Munich.

Mauricio Pochettino will be expecting a strong performance from his side after drawing their first game in Olympiacos.

FC Bayern on the other hand will be looking to further their lead at the top of Group B after a comfortable win against Red Star Belgrade in the opening fixture.

Elsewhere, Manchester City face Dinamo Zagreb after a convincing victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in matchday one.

It was a comfortable victory and City’s record at home in the Champions League has been near perfect since Pep Guardiola’s arrival.

City have beaten the likes of FC Barcelona since the Spaniard’s arrival and a victory at the Etihad will set the Premier League champions on their way to progression to  the knockout rounds.

Group D sees Juventus take on Bayer Leverkusen in Turin.

Juventus will look to build on the point they picked up in Madrid in the first round.

All eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo after being absent from the score sheet against Atletico Madrid.

Ronaldo will therefore be eager to add to his record 126 Champions League goals, which he’ll hope will aid Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.
