16 May 2019
Club football is nearing the end of yet another pulsating campaign.
The 2018-19 season has provided some moments of individual brilliance across all leagues and with the domestic campaign almost at a close, here’s a look at some of the finest strikes over the last nine months. Sergio Agüero vs Chelsea
Sergio Agüero vs Chelsea
The Argentine has been at his brilliant best this season for Manchester City and his goal against Chelsea in February 2019 summed up his form.
Finding time and space outside the box, the striker lashed the ball into the top corner. The goal was one of three Agüero scored against the Blues in a 6-0 thrashing.
Agüero continued to provide crucial goals for City, scoring on the final day in a 4-1 win over Brighton to help secure back-to-back Premier League titles.
Ángel Di María vs Olympique de Marseille
Ángel Di María chose the perfect moment to light up Le Classique with a peach of a free-kick for PSG.
With PSG holding a tight 1-0 lead at the Parc des Princes, up stepped Di María who got his set piece spot on as it curled away from the goalkeeper and into the net.
The effort was one of 18 goals Di María netted for PSG in the 2018-19 season, his second highest tally in a single season.
Ivan Rakitić vs Tottenham Hotspur
FC Barcelona headed to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League back in October 2018 looking for another victory in the group stages.
After taking an early lead through Phillippe Coutinho, Rakitić doubled the lead with a sensational volley off the post, leaving goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with no chance.
The goal helped Barça to a sensational 4-2 victory over the Premier League side.
Andros Townsend vs Manchester City
When Manchester City went into an early lead against Crystal Palace, it looked like Pep Guardiola’s men were on their way to victory at the Etihad.
But Andros Townsend helped inspire a comeback, volleying his effort into the net from more than 30 yards.
The incredible strike put Palace into the lead and inspired the Eagles to a 3-2 victory, the only side to win at the Etihad all season.
Vincent Kompany vs Leicester City
Manchester City stood on the brink of letting their Premier League advantage slip at home to Leicester City.
That was until captain Vincent Kompany smashed home his first goal of the season with a long-range effort that left Kasper Schmeichel with no chance.
The goal came with 15 minutes remaining and sealed a 1-0 victory and moved City back to the top of the table as they defended their title.
Cristiano Ronaldo vs Manchester United
Cristiano Ronaldo showed his former employers how it’s done at the Allianz Stadium in November 2018.
The Portuguese superstar volleyed Leonardo Bonucci’s ball over the top into the net with devastating power, showing off his abs after firing the ball past David De Gea.
Ronaldo ended the Champions League season with six goals in nine games.
